Child Welfare Investigator, Licensed Trainer, Supervisor, and Advisor in Signs of Safety (SofS)
Originally from Ghana in West Africa, I have lived in Sweden since 1982. My multicultural background provides me with a deep understanding of families with diverse ethnic experiences, particularly in relation to the work of social services. I have extensive experience in child welfare investigations, serving in multiple roles including employee, consultant, trainer, supervisor, and advisor.
Since 2001, I have worked with Signs of Safety (SofS), supervising and training over 170 municipalities across Sweden. In October 2023, I became Chairman of the Board of Elia – Home of Signs of Safety, the international organization that holds the exclusive right to license social workers worldwide as SofS trainers and consultants.
I have particular expertise in complex cases, including families with non-Nordic backgrounds, honor-related concerns, and families from the African continent. I often act as a bridge between families and social services, supporting authorities in creating long-term, sustainable, and legally secure plans for children and young people. My work ensures that social services assessments respect both cultural factors and the best interests of the individual child.
I have always been passionate about investigative work and have held various roles within government agencies, including the City of Stockholm and Nacka Municipality. Since 2005, I have worked as a consultant in complex child welfare cases throughout Sweden, while continuing to train and supervise social services both nationally and internationally in SofS.
Leading roles in international implementation
- Toronto, Canada– Leading implementation of SofS at North America’s largest social service, the Children’s Aid Society in Toronto.
- Iceland– Since May 2025, one of the leaders guiding SofS implementation across Icelandic child and youth care.
- Sweden– Supporting multiple municipalities in their long-term implementation, working closely with both managers and social workers in direct client work.
My approach
I believe that Signs of Safety is a “doing approach”, which is why I always work close to practice – engaging directly in real cases alongside social workers and managers. By taking a curious, non-knowing position, asking detailed questions about risk and resources, and involving the child and family network in planning, we build strong, sustainable solutions.
